The long running dispute over the CFA volunteers agreement is to come before a Senate Committee as the Coalition fulfils an election commitment to back and protect CFA volunteers.
Senate Standing Committee on Education and Employment chair Nationals Senator Bridget McKenzie is calling on Victorians to make submissions to an inquiry into the Fair Work Amendment (Respect for Emergency Services Volunteers) Bill 2016.
‘‘It is a short time frame for submissions, but I believe this is an area that deserves quick action, to respect the work and conditions of CFA volunteers,’’ Senator McKenzie said.
‘‘I am very keen that everyone who wants to have a say, does so.
‘‘Submissions close on Monday, September 12, with public hearings in Melbourne and regional Victoria after that date.’’
The bill provides that an enterprise agreement cannot include terms that impact the capacity of volunteer emergency services to properly manage their volunteer operations.
