Car impounded

Police have impounded a man’s car last week after he was caught speeding near Benalla last Wednesday.

Members reported seeing a silver Mercedes E200 travelling south along Hume Fwy about 6am.

Officers from Benalla stationed themselves near Mansfield Rd and detected the car travelling at 196km/h in a 110km/h zone.

The members activated their lights and the driver, a 20-year-old from St Albans, immediately pulled over.

His car was impounded and he will incur towing and storage costs of $1700.

He was interviewed and charged with speed dangerous and excessive speed.

Vehicle hits tree

A young Benalla mother and her infant child were conveyed to Wangaratta Hospital as a result of a single-vehicle collision with a tree at Baddaginnie at 5.45pm on Tuesday.

Frozen food stolen

Frozen food to the value of $150 was taken from a chest freezer in George Say Crt over a three-day period. The freezer was located in the carport of the residence.

Driver remanded in custody

A Holden Rodeo ute evaded police interception at 6am on Friday morning in Benalla.

Investigations revealed the vehicle had been stolen from a Bungeet West property about two hours prior.

The offender had arrived at the property in a Hyundai which had been stolen from Sydney on October 16.

He left the Hyundai at the victim’s property and took the Rodeo from the farm shed.

This Rodeo was involved in a pursuit on Hume Fwy, Glenrowan on October 23 where the vehicle was successfully intercepted and a 63-year-old man was arrested.

He has been charged and remanded in custody.
