Benalla Rural City Council, in partnership with the Benalla Rotary Club, has put together 20 Christmas hampers, which are being distributed by the council’s rural outreach worker to rural community families and individuals across the municipality.
Rural outreach worker Ivan Lister provides a valuable link between rural residents and support services helping people manage their health and wellbeing.
‘‘Christmas can be a very difficult time for some families,’’ Mayor Don Firth said.
‘‘Ivan Lister has identified the need to offer some Christmas cheer to rural families, many of whom are doing it tough.
‘‘Ivan has been in the role for the past 13 years and has built up a strong rapport and a great reputation with our rural community and various support services.’’
Cr Firth said council acknowledged the tremendous support of the Benalla Rotary Club and president Amanda Challis who contributed towards the hampers.
The hampers comprise a variety of Christmas treats, including a homemade fruit cake.
Ivan works in Benalla Rural City two days a week.
