Spirit shines bright

December 24, 2016

The festive spirit is shining brightly in Benalla this Christmas.

In a partnership between Benalla Rural City Council, the Benalla Businesses Network and local community groups, the central business district, streets and laneways are decked with life-size candy canes made by members of Benalla’s Men’s Shed and decorated with solar lights courtesy of Schneider Electric.

As night falls, solar Christmas decorations will light up the rooftop of the Customer Service Centre, the Benalla Art Gallery and the Benalla Town Hall.

Santa hats sit on top of the street bollards in Bridge St.

Members of the community are encouraged to take part in a fun, family activity, Spotto Santa, presented by Schneider Electric Benalla, to spot and snap Santas that are hiding in and around Benalla’s central business district and share the photos on Facebook using the hashtag #SpottoSchneiderSanta

Reindeer, Santas and festive scenes will also adorn the windows, balconies and roofs of local businesses as part of the Benalla Christmas trail.

By shopping locally this holiday season, Christmas could come early for a lucky shopper every week, by winning the GMCU Big Gift Giveaway.

By spending $20 or more in any of the 40 participating businesses from now until January 18, shoppers go in the draw for a share of $2000 Benalla dollars.
