Accident probed

Police are investigating the circumstances following a fatal crash in Benalla on Saturday morning.

Police attended the incident at 6.30am where it is believed a man in his late 80s was travelling on Kealy Rd when his car veered off and crashed into a tree.

The man appeared to be the sole occupant of the vehicle and died at the scene.

The exact circumstances of the crash are unknown at this stage.

Driver bailed

Police arrested a 29-year-old male after driving more than 200km along the Hume Fwy on Saturday morning.

He was found at the Euroa Roadhouse trying to fill his car with petrol. He was arrested at the scene and taken to Benalla Police Station where he returned an alcohol reading of 0.106 per cent.

He was charged with exceeding 0.05, conduct endangering life, and speed offences. He was bailed to attend the Magistrate Court at a later date.

Be fire smart

Benalla police and CFA want to remind the community to be fire smart, after a fire was lit during fire restriction on Monday.

The land owner was burning off some tree stumps at the rear off his property, when Benalla fire brigade attend and extinguished the fire.

Man arrested

Benalla Police arrested a 50-year-old male for an outstanding burglary that occurred in September last year.

The male was arrested and interviewed on January 3 for the burglary, and will face the Benalla Magistrate Court at a later date.

Quad bikes stolen

Police are appealing for residents to secure their property and detail serial numbers after two quad bikes were stolen from different properties during December last year.

A purple and blue Polaris bike was stolen from a property in Greenvale Lane Mansfield. And a Blue Yamaha quad bike with a black seat, and carry bars was stolen from a Kevington property.

Benalla Highway Patrol wants to remind the public to concentrate on their driving during the World Gliders Championship.

There will be a large number of aircraft in the skies around Benalla and that could distract you while you are driving.
