People should be extra vigilant against mosquito bites as Victoria’s chief medical officer issues a health warning on Ross River virus.
Professor Charles Guest issued the health warning last week after confirmation that mosquitoes with the virus had been detected around Moira and the Barmah Forest.
The warning states that people should wear long, loose-fitting clothes if mosquitoes are around, use effective repellent and limit time outdoors in areas with mosquitoes.
Ross River virus can cause joint swelling, pain, fatigue and muscle aches and can last for several months.
Although all Victorians are at risk, infections are more common in regional areas.
