The construction of the Adventure Park in the Benalla Botanical Gardens is nearing completion.
The redevelopment of the playground includes the refurbishment of the iconic rocket slide.
Completed zones include a toddler space, rope play area, Hobbit Cave and sand play area.
Benalla Rural City Mayor Don Firth said the Adventure Park would be an asset for years to come.
‘‘The rocket park has been a much-loved icon of the Rural City,’’ Cr Firth said.
‘‘I am excited to see the new Adventure Park site nearing completion.
‘‘I would like to thank all the community groups who have made in-kind contributions and the many local contractors who have worked through the Christmas and new year period to bring the project to its final stages.’’
Funding for the Adventure Park has been from:
●State government — Regional Growth Fund $300000; state government — Community Facility Fund $100000; Benalla Rural City Council $165000; The Friends of Benalla Botanical Gardens and Riverine Parkland $10000 Tomorrow Today Foundation $15000; and in-kind contributions* $20000. Total $610000.
*In-Kind contributions are from Hands on Learning, Rotary Club of Benalla, Benalla Lions Club, The Friends of Benalla Botanical Gardens and Riverine Parkland and Goulburn Ovens Institute of TAFE.
Zones within the Adventure Park will be opened in stages over the coming weeks.
