Get your tastebuds ready — Benalla will play host to Melbourne’s finest food trucks this month, offering local residents the chance to sample tasty treats and fancy feasts from across the globe.
The Benalla Food Truck Carnival will bring a series of culinary delights to the region, as part of the Benalla Gold Cup Carnival festivities.
Organiser Mark Lipshut said they were looking forward to the event.
‘‘There were about 1000 people from Benalla who ended up coming to the Yarrawonga carnival,’’ Mr Lipshut said.
‘‘Cam from the racing club came up for a few days and saw how the event worked and how well it would fit in with the racing carnival.
‘‘It worked out really well with the timing that we can work in with the Benalla Cup.’’
The Yarrawonga carnival proved popular in January, with about 45000 people flocking to the Yarrawonga foreshore for the event.
Fourteen trucks will be heading to Benalla for the three-day event, offering delicacies inspired by cuisines across the world.
‘‘There will be different trucks to Yarrawonga, but similarly they’ll offer a range of foods that come from across the globe,’’ Mr Lipshut said.
‘‘All the vans are subject to the pretty high standards of the carnival and what people have come to expect from us in the past.’’
Mr Lipshut said it would be a fun day out for the family.
‘‘We’re really excited to come to Benalla,’’ he said.
‘‘We see it as an event, that if it’s supported and welcomed by the Benalla community, that could be run again.
‘‘We’d love to see it return as an annual event.’’
The Food Truck carnival is about to wrap up its first year of operation after hosting its first event in Berwick, which attracted about 50000 people, with 12 events in total.
‘‘It really showed us there was a pretty strong desire for something like this in the outer suburbs and regional Victoria,’’ Mr Lipshut said.
The Benalla Food Truck Carnival will run on Friday, March 24, from 5pm to 10pm, on Saturday, March 25, after the racing from 4pm to 10pm and on Sunday, March 26, from noon to 9pm at the Benalla Racecourse.
