Humble speaker

April 07, 2017

While he’s not comfortable with the title of ‘‘philanthropist’’, that is precisely what Carrillo Gantner is.

As grandson of Russian immigrant Sidney Myer who established the Myer department store chain, Mr Gantner is charged with the presidency of the Sidney Myer fund, which distributes grants to various cultural and arts sectors.

Mr Gantner has held various high-profile arts positions, such as Chair of the Melbourne International Arts Festival, Melbourne International Comedy Festival and the Australia Council.

Considered an ‘‘elder statesman’’ of the Melbourne arts scene, it’s a privilege that Mr Gantner will this week appear as guest speaker of the Order of Australia Association, North East Victoria and Goulburn Valley Regional Group lunch at the Quality Hotel Wangaratta Gateway, 29-37 Ryley St, Wangaratta at 12.30pm on Sunday, April 9.

The event will be preceded by an Ecumenical Church Service at the Holy Trinity Cathedral, 6 The Close, Wangaratta, at 11.30am.

Cost is $45 per person.
