October 14, 1992: Benalla High School’s marvellous academic record continued when two girls were recently selected for the National Science Summer Camp.
Judy Buckmaster and Erica Sloan have been selected after first, local Rotarians and then other committees were unable to choose between the two.
‘‘Rotary has been a strong supporter of youth over a long time and we are proud to say this is the second time two people have been chosen from Benalla High School,’’ Rotary president Syd Lewis said.
A total of 276 students were chosen from 2000 applicants from 2300 secondary colleges Australia wide.
Erica and Judy are looking forward to the trip immensely.
School principal Keith Rogers said it was a tremendously consistent achievement by the school during the past 10 years.
The camp goes for two weeks and is held at the Australian National University in Canberra.
Students meet scientists in the discipline of science they wish to pursue and work in laboratories with these people and learn directly what a career in science will be like.
